About

Words don’t just tell. They touch.

I’m Joseph Ngaara. A storyteller, speaker, trainer, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) professional, mentor and founder of Growth StoryWorks.

For more than 15 years, my work has taken me across East Africa.

Working with people and organizations in health, education, livelihoods, economic growth, humanitarian assistance and community development.

But beneath the reports, dashboards, workshops and strategies, I’ve always been drawn to something more human:

the stories behind the work.

I See Stories Everywhere

I don’t just hear stories. I see them.

Growing up, I felt deeply. Sometimes too deeply.

Over time, I discovered that this sensitivity could become a strength. It taught me to listen to what people say, what they leave unsaid, and what their experiences can teach us.

That curiosity eventually found its way into writing.

For more than a decade, I’ve been using my blog to explore stories of triumph and tragedy, faith and failure, work and family, resilience and the wonderfully messy business of being human.

And the journey has evolved.

The pen has gradually acquired a microphone. 🎤

Today, I write, speak, facilitate, mentor and help others turn their experiences into stories worth sharing and lessons worth carrying forward.

From Stories to Growth

That evolution gave birth to Growth StoryWorks.

Growth StoryWorks is my consulting and creative practice.

Bringing together storytelling, learning, evidence and communication to help people and organizations grow.

I work across:

  • Storytelling for Impact
  • Training & Facilitation
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
  • Data Visualization & Insight
  • Communications & Engagement
  • Guided Mentorship

The common thread is simple:

Turn stories into learning.
Turn learning into action.
Turn experience into lasting impact.

Then There’s Growth Communities

Growth Communities is the platform through which many of these ideas come to life.

It is a space for conversations, stories, learning and collaboration.

Bringing people together to reflect, share experiences, ask better questions and discover possibilities for growth.

Through Growth Communities, I write, host conversations, facilitate learning, speak, mentor and create spaces where people can learn from one another.

Growth Communities is a platform of Growth StoryWorks.

What I Bring

My professional journey sits at an interesting intersection:

📖 Storytelling

I help people find the story within their experiences and communicate it in ways that connect.

🎤 Learning & Facilitation

I design and facilitate conversations and learning experiences that move beyond information toward reflection and action.

📊 Evidence & MEL

With more than 15 years in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning, I bring an evidence mindset to questions about what works, why it works and what we can learn.

📣 Communications and Engagement

I help translate complex ideas, evidence and experiences into messages people can understand, remember and act on.

🌱 Growth & Mentorship

Through guided mentorship, I create practical, faith-rooted spaces for individuals and couples navigating transitions and life’s unexpected seasons.

My Approach

I believe good work sits at the intersection of people, evidence and story.

So I try to bring five things to every engagement:

Curiosity: asking better questions before rushing to answers.

Humanity: remembering that behind every dataset, programme and strategy are real people.

Evidence: grounding decisions in what we know, what we have experienced and what the evidence tells us.

Clarity: making complex ideas easier to understand and act on.

Growth: leaving people, organisations and communities with something they can build on.

Beyond the Work

I am also a husband, father, Christian and children’s ministry leader.

These parts of my life continually remind me that growth isn’t only about careers, organisations or projects.

It is also about faith, family, resilience, relationships and becoming.

Perhaps that’s why I’m particularly interested in the stories that happen between the big milestones, the ordinary moments where people discover courage, make difficult choices, start again and keep going.

Those are often the stories that stay with us.

People are at the heart of the work

Whether you have a story that needs telling…

A team that needs facilitating, evidence that needs making sense of, a message that needs communicating, or simply an idea worth exploring…

I’d love to hear it.

You tell. I write. We thrive.
