Mrs. Kamau: Class 1–3 Teacher, Life Mentor, and Low-Key Legend 👏
When you think about foundational figures in your life…
You might picture presidents, CEOs, or maybe your favorite motivational speaker.
But for us, Ruai Primary School alumni of the 90s, it was Mrs. Kamau.
The queen of English, Maths, and CRE. She silently and faithfully laid the bricks of our futures.
She joined Ruai Primary in 1991 and retired in 2004.
Marking 35 years of chalk, blackboards, and motherly wisdom.
On October 8, 2022, we, her former pupils gathered to walk down memory lane with her.
Not in a classroom this time. But, in warm celebration of her legacy.
Soft-spoken but steady. Mrs. Kamau was the mother many of us didn’t know we needed.
She nurtured our fears.
Corrected our letters (and our lives). And did it all without ever raising her voice.
Her presence alone was discipline and grace combined. 🙏
Since her retirement 18 years ago, life has been a cocktail of calm mornings.
Her titles have changed from “Teacher” to “Shosh.”
She didn’t apply for this promotion, but wears it with humor. 🤣
Married for a whopping 50 years. Mr. Kamau was a fashion-forward husband.
He wore trousers in the 60s (while the rest were in shorts).
Their love story is proof that true love isn’t a scam. ❤️
When asked what she’d do with a million shillings, her answer?
“Build rental houses.
They’re unlike chicken or cows that constantly need feeding.” 🐓🐄
Practical, hilarious, and oh-so-on-brand for our beloved teacher!
We didn’t just laugh and reminisce. We celebrated tangibly.
We shared stories, hugs, and a sermon.
Reminding us how deeply God’s presence still weaves through our lives.
Then we broke bread together.
Because no reunion is complete without a good meal.
We laughed. We joked. We were children again. And above all, we gave thanks.
To you, Mwalimu, thank you for being our calm in the chaos.
Our compass in childhood. It was so, so good to be home.
