Being Out of Work

“Guys, I just got a job!”

That was me excitedly telling my kids at dinner time, after reading a random email. They jumped off the table exclaiming / ululating in celebration.

Our 12-year old son landed on the kitchen counter top. He did a jig like the dance groups receiving Kenya’s (former) President Moi, at the airport. He peeked to read the email.

After the excitement chilled out, I asked, “Guys, why the excitement?” To which I got these reasons, in that order:

🤲 We have been praying for you
✈️ We will go for the upcoming school trip to Dubai
💻 You will replace the Endless OS with Windows 11 OS

Guys, I haven’t gotten a job. Not yet. Now I know, children are highly perceptive.

My excitement was an uncensored gut-feeling that skipped my brain. I’d read a response to one of my job applications.

It has been 3.5 months | 42 job applications | 5 regrets | 0 interviews

I am blessed to have children who are praying for me. They have queued up their expectations as well 🤭.
