When life breaks you down, let worship lift you up.
On September 14, 2025 just one day before my birthday 🎂, I taught God’s Word @GPT Hebron City Church, under Rev. Albert Shitakwa. During the Discipleship Forum.
We started with a sobering question:
When someone like Charlie Kirk, young, bold, and seemingly walking in God’s will, is suddenly gone, how do we make sense of it?
It’s a question that hits close to home when tragedy visits our own lives. But Scripture doesn’t leave us without hope. We turned to Job 1 to discover how to trust God when the unthinkable happens.
We studied Job 1:1-21 in three parts:
- Goodness Isn’t Enough, vs.-5
- Evil Seems to Win, vs.6-19
- Worship is All We Have, vs.20-22
When Goodness Isn’t Enough
Job was “blameless and upright,” yet he faced catastrophic loss. His story reminds us:
- Being good doesn’t shield us from pain (Romans 3:10).
- God’s goodness is constant, even when ours falls short (Mark 10:18).
- We must judge life by God’s character, not the other way around (Isaiah 55:8–9).
Takeaway: Faith isn’t about having a trouble-free life. It’s about trusting a good God in a broken world.
When Evil Seems to Win
In Job 1:6–19, the enemy accuses, and tragedy strikes. Yet God is still in control:
- Satan is real but limited. He can only act within God’s boundaries (Revelation 12:10).
- Evil may shake our lives, but it cannot dethrone God.
- Worship is a defiant act of faith when we fall to our knees like Job.
Takeaway: Worship silences the accuser. It shifts us from “Why me?” to “Who is God?”
When Worship Is All We Have
Job responded to devastation with this staggering confession:
“The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” (Job 1:21)
True worship happens not when we have all the answers but when we choose to bless God in the middle of the storm.
Takeaway: Worship is our weapon. It realigns our perspective and invites God’s peace (Philippians 4:7).
Closing Thoughts
That Sunday, we walked away reminded that God’s goodness is not a mood. It is His nature. Our pain does not cancel His promises.
Whether in sunshine or storm, we can trust His character. Worship Him and find His peace guarding our hearts.
